iPhone A Through Z - \"F\" Is For Facetime

This week, it's all about FaceTime on our iPhone A to Z series.

And even though we talk (mostly) about iPhones, this particular video was inspired by a former student (from my Adult Education classes) who had an iPad, and wondered if it is still possible to make a phone call.

Well, the answer is a definite "yes" ... If you use the built-in FaceTime app. Now, there are lots of other apps that allow you to make video calls from device to device. (Too many to list here... Just do a quick G-search.) Still, the FaceTime app is baked in to all iPhones and iPads, so it's a simple way to communicate via video to another iPhone or iPad user.

And yes, both sides of the call need to have the FaceTime app to use this feature, so yo can't call Android friends from your iPhone / iPad with FaceTime. Again, check those other non-Apple apps for help with that.

But if both of you have Apple devices, FaceTime is a very powerful, simple-to-use and downright fun app for close-up communicating. It's a great way for grandmother (or father) to talk to the grand-kids anywhere on Planet Earth. And the kids love using their iPhones or iPads to talk... It's all about the technology, after all.

In this video, I'll show you how to make sure FaceTime is enabled on your device, and how you can use both a phone number or an email address to contact someone using the app. There are also several different ways to start a FaceTime call...all of them easy, so just use whatever works for you.
