One of the biggest, best updates found in the new iOS 14 iPhone / iPad software is the ability to add “widgets” to the home screen.
They’re like “mini-apps” that show information from the full-sized apps on your phone. For example, you can get a quick glance at your day’s schedule, the weather where you are, and lots more.
One of the special kinds of widgets you can add to the home screen is called the “Smart Stack.” This is a collection of individual widgets that you can scroll through - right on the home page - without opening the individual apps. It’s a great way to catch up on important information.
There are a lot of built-in widgets to be found in the iOS 14 update. And while they’re very cool, one of the really nice features of iOS 14 is the ability to create your own “smart stack” of apps. It’s easy - once you know how - to drag-and-drop your favorite widgets to create a stack of your own making.
In this video, I’ll demonstrate how to create a smart stack of widgets that show off several different stock price quotes. If you follow the stock market, this is a really cool way to stay up to date.
But it’s important to note that you can create a stack of ANY kind of widget, so use your imagination and think about what kinds of information you want to see right there on your main iPhone / iPad screen. In addition, you can also create your own widgets to show off stuff like your favorite photos or your favorite music.
Check out the video for all the how-to information on making a smart stack of your very own. Don’t forget: You can get a free weekly "Recap" email telling you all about the past week's videos, and a link to download the free "class handout" to show you exactly how to do it what we show on the videos (usually the iPhone Friday video, but sometimes both the weekly videos have handouts.)
